Conducting Postures

This is a famous series of 20 pictures showing Mascagni in various conducting postures. Not only are they a great opportunity of seeing a young Mascagni on the podium, but they are also a fine piece of humour. The pictures are credited to "Danesi Roma", Danesi being the probable Roman publisher of the series.

The following information has been kindly provided by Edoardo Farinelli, owner of the original set of pictures and great-grandson of Pietro Mascagni:

  • Date: around 1895.

  • Photographer: Ettore Ximenes, Italian sculptor who was also active in South America during the second part of the 19th century.

  • The original is a large panel on which the photos are glued, with date and signature by the author.

  • The original is currently kept at the law firm of Maurizio Misurale, via in Lucina n. 17, Rome.
