Special Notes About the MRF Releases
In the 1970's the private, New York based label MRF released a series of eight
Mascagni recordings. Featuring live performances, those releases were very important
because they made available to the general public complete versions of operas that
were at the time considered obscure and otherwise very hard to obtain. Even to this
day the MRF release of Parisina is the most complete version of the opera
available on record.
Unlike some other private labels, MRF produced professionally packaged sets that
came with a booklet featuring the complete libretto (including an original English
translation) and sometimes extensive essays. For the Mascagni releases, the
translations and essays were written by David Stivender, chorus master at the
Metropolitan Opera and famous Mascagnano. His essays on Isabeau and
Lodoletta are very notable.
In the name of all Mascagni enthusiasts, Mascagni.org would like to thank
Bismarck, Mauro, Marshall and David for their work of love!
